Dr. Alberto García is a Trauma, Emergency, and Critical Care Surgeon at Fundación Valle del Lili and a professor at the universities Icesi and Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. He is the chief of the general surgery residency at the first two institutions. He participated in the creation of the Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery specialties in his country. In addition to the leadership he has exercised at the local level, his teaching activity has transcended the national and international arenas, and he has participated in disseminating knowledge and training doctors and surgeons in different countries in Latin America, Europe, and the United States. He received recognition as the best teacher from the General Surgery residents of the Universidad del Valle and as a distinguished professor at Universidad del Valle. He was commissioned by the “Rafael Casas Morales Honorary Lecture” at the 44th National Congress of the Colombian Association of Surgery. He has been named an honorary member of the national surgical societies of Brazil, Chile, and Peru and the Brazilian Society for Comprehensive Trauma Care (SBAIT). He has acted as a guest speaker at the congresses of the American College of Surgeons (2014, 2018, and 2022), the Spanish Society of Surgery (2010), and the World Association of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (2014). He participated as a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh in 2008. He was president of the Colombian Trauma Society and has been a member of the trauma committee of the Colombian Trauma Society. Doctor García has been the author of more than 120 papers and book chapters, has more than 3300 citations, and his H index is 18.
