Stavros A. Antoniou was born in Athens, Greece. He received his undergraduate degree in Thessaloniki, Greece and postgraduate clinical and research training in Germany and in Greece. He holds a PhD in minimally invasive surgery, a Master Degree in Public Health and Health Business Administration and he is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery. His scholarly work is focused on synthesis of evidence (meta-analysis, meta-regression, trial sequential analysis, network meta-analysis) and he has performed research on the quality of surgical trials. He has served as head or member of several guidelines development groups and is associate editor and member of editorial board in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He is chair of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery Consensus & Guideline Subcommittee and member of the United European Gastroenterology Quality of Care Task Force. He is scientific collaborator at the European University Cyprus and practises General & Colorectal Surgery at the Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus in Limassol, Cyprus.
