The mission of The Surgical Section of the National Medical Association is to stimulate, support and sustain, amongst all of its members, interest and excellence in all facets of the clinical practice of surgery. Our mission consists of four pillars.
Education
Educational programs, both within and outside of the section, aim to increase the recruitment and retainment of Black and other ethnic minority surgeons into positions of leadership in American surgery.
Mentoring
Early and active mentoring of high school, undergraduate, and medical students to promote their increased interested in, and entrance into, careers in surgery.
Outreach
Programs that aim to improve the health of the communities in which we work and live.
Consulting
Consultation services to enhance patient outcomes and the financial strength of members’ practices, and to help protect members against unwanted intrusions upon their abilities to freely engage in the practice of surgery.
